Ban Termites Before They Even Have a Chance to Infest Your Home. Here Are The Preventative Measures You Can (And Should) Take Right Now

By | December 15, 2016

Termite damage causes billions worth of losses annually around the world. They look like tiny ants, and they travel in colonies eating wood and other organic things. They can cause major damage in just a short period of time. That is why it is so important to take the precautions you can to ensure your home does not become infested.

Regular Inspections

This is the very first thing you can do to prevent termites. Be sure to get semi-annual, or at least annual, checkups by a professional. That is the only way you can be sure that your home is not infested with termites. You must have a house completely assessed for termite damage before purchasing a house or any other real estate property.

Remove Moisture

Termites love wet environments, as they live off of water in order to survive. This is why it is so important to make sure that there aren’t any broken pipes or leaks in your home. If there are, they will provide the perfect priding grounds for termites.

Repair Cracks in Your House

Termites can fit through the smallest of openings. They will find any cracks in the foundation to get through into the house. Make sure that all openings or cracks are sealed properly.

Use Termite-Resistant Treated Wood

You should know that chemically treated wood does lower the chance of a termite infestation. Therefore, use treated wood when building inside the house. Be sure when building a deck or other addition to the house, that it is raised and not directly in contact with the soil.

Minimize Contact

Termites love to build tunnels in soil. By reducing direct contact between the wood and soil, you’re able to block this method of them coming into the house. Make sure that you minimize the contact between the wood and soil and your foundation, no matter how inconvenient that may prove to be. The alternative isn’t pretty.

Don’t Store Wood Outside

Termites love when you do this. Wood left outside is usually rained on frequently, which, you guessed it, creates moisture. If you are going to store it outside, be sure it is far away from your house and in a place such as a bin or shed, rather than just sitting out without any cover.

Mulch

Termites are in love with mulch, because it is very moist. It cannot be stressed enough that you must keep wooden mulch far, far away from the foundation of the house. At the very least, 6″ if not more. Yes, this may interfere with your landscaping, but would you rather your mulch be further from the house than you would like, or have to live with a termite infestation tent, and spend thousands of dollars to get rid of them? That’s what we thought! Also keep big bushes and plants of that nature away from the exterior of the house, as it can cause moisture buildups as well.

Termites are a total nightmare. I’ve never had them, but my neighbor did. I felt really bad. They had to move for like three weeks, and everything had to be cleaned inside of the house too because the damage was so bad. They had to clean ALL of the furniture.

That’s awful. I’ve never had termites either, and I don’t know anyone who has. But the thought of it just sounds horrific. Plus, I’ve heard how expensive it can be to get rid of them.

I have noticed that credit improvement activity needs to be conducted with techniques. If not, chances are you’ll find yourself destroying your rank. In order to reach your goals in fixing your credit ranking you have to make sure that from this time you pay any monthly costs promptly in advance of their appointed date. It really is significant on the grounds that by not accomplishing that area, all other activities that you will decide to try to improve your credit positioning will not be useful. Thanks for giving your suggestions.

Thanks for the distinct tips shared on this weblog. I have seen that many insurance carriers offer buyers generous deals if they choose to insure many cars together. A significant amount of households have got several autos these days, specially those with mature teenage young children still dwelling at home, and also the savings on policies could soon begin. So it makes sense to look for a good deal.

I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what all is required to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100 certain. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
